Annie Leibovitz Stars in New Louis Vuitton Ad

Louis Vuitton turned the tables on Annie Leibovitz, photographer of its “core values” ad campaigns, and asked her to appear in its next spots, which will break in daily newspapers, magazines and online starting Feb. 1. She hesitated at first, but ultimately accepted — on the condition she use the fee to hire someone famous to pose with her. That flew in the face of Vuitton communication director Antoine Arnault’s intention: He had proposed the self-portrait project to Leibovitz as a gesture of support, given her widely publicized financial problems. “She’s a real, pure, 100 percent artist,” enthused Arnault, who insisted on ponying up for her chosen co-star, ballet legend Mikhail Baryshnikov. “We’ve always been very committed to her, to her talent.” Taken in Leibovitz’s New York studio, the photo depicts the dancer barefoot on a podium, and the photographer eying her subject, her own three-year-old monogram Neverfull bag next to her and stuffed with books. The tag line reads: “The journey of a star, captured in a flash.” Arnault said the image exemplifies the “moment of quiet and calm” Leibovitz achieves with her sitters. “She just gets in their souls,” he said. “This campaign has really become almost a saga.

Playmakers Part II
Was able to drop by last night and on the way felt a bit of the holiday spirit on the way to Niketown's event Playmakers which was kicking off the season with Nike's holiday collection of sportswear at the 5th floor.
Wermser opened the set and DJ Just Blaze was on the 1's & 2's to finish the night off.
Checked out the scene nearby with Cgod on our way and got stopped by some Japanese Reporter on what the meaning of the snowflake means to me, which I felt was to lift the spirits of New Yorkers for the holidays that are coming and also to encourage the spirit of shopping for tourists but I did some research and found out that the snowflake actually has a much deeper meaning.
It is actually the UNICEF Snowflake
There are actually two of them one in New York City and one on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills,CA
The snowflake actually symbolizes the world's most vulnerable children.
It is a reminder of UNICEF’s commitment to reach a day when zero children die from preventable causes.
The crystals in the snowflake represent an inspired community who will forever take care of the world's children.
Louis Vuitton store had quite cosmetic look for this season.
Stopped by the Fifth floor and checked out 3 private collections
Not sure what this seamless Dunk was, but someone just told me on Sneakerplaythat these came out earlier this year and are called the Nike Dunk High Supreme - Olympic Octodot Pack and supposedly they released some through Bodega and possibly at the Rivington Club.

Go (C) Murakami in Brooklyn
Was finally able to check out the Murakami exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum this past weekend.
The last time I saw his work was at Rockefeller Center: Reversed Double Helix in August 2003 which was quite an experience (missed the one in Grand Central in 2001! Did anyone catch it?), but I promised myself that I would not miss his most recent installations. This 46 year old artist/curator/ theorist/ product designer/ businessman, and celebrity has created his own world which consists of a blend of apocalypse fantasy and innocence.
Check out the shots of the immense fiberglass statue in the front of the museum which is the only work really that I was allowed to shoot besides the balloon sized Mr. DOB Crazy Z (DOB's March) 1995. Dr. Murakami developed Mr. DOB, a character that was to unite elements of Western pop animations such as Mickey Mouse and Japanese geek Otaku culture. Supposedly, the letters “DOB” stands for the Japanese word meaning “Why?” I think Mr. DOB could be Murakami’s alter ego/avatar but I could be wrong. Every time I look at his work, Mr. Dob morphs into something else like a psychedelic, colorful, and quite a quirky character.
Unfortunately, no photography was allowed inside of the exhibit unless you are a ninja or double agent.
Did you know that he runs his own art studio that consists of 60+ employees who get to have a Q & A with him daily.
The show is on the 4th and 5th fl. and if you are bringing cash make sure you don't bring your boo near the Murakami X LV shop they got set up on the 5th floor and if you got your seeds be sure to stop by the water fountain in front of the museum. It'll be worth the watch I just wish they had music playing along with the fountain.
One last thing, you must check out the Inochi video on the 4th floor.
This is one of Murakami commercial product. He first made a sculpture, Inochi ("Life"). Bu then later on he decided to shoot a sexy "commercial" for the sculpture as if it were a car or any other luxury product. Quite the genius I must say.
Be sure to check out the new bag collaboration of LV X Murakami - "Monogramouflage"
(thanks to Eugene Kan from Hypebeast)
Not my cup of tea, things a bit too much all over print.
Check out the ad campaign here:
The show is till July 13th so make sure you check it out, its worth it!
