HEAVY ROTATION #1

I've been on this girl's jock heavy son!!!

Hailing from Illadel, this artist has caught my ear ever since that Budlight Lime commercial aired (Creator)...I first thought that the song was an MIA track...but after doing some research I found out Santogold's been doing her thing for a while...even though Creator has to be my favorite track, this comes in at a close second:

I was in Hoboken last week to see the reopening of Sinatra Field which Field Turf a co. who has replaced turf fields which is an artificial field consisted of sand and rubber. The company has replaced over 22 NFL fields and for NJ, they have worked with Rutgers University, NY Giants Stadium, & NY Jets Stadium.
I happened to stop by Sinatra cafe and stepped inside to see a few folks hanging up artwork and I came across this canvas "A Third World Dream and Reality" which struck my eye. The jersey artist is Mario Pena aka Elijah and you can find his work online and also around the tri-state area. You may have already seen his work in a few galleries in New York, keep a look out for this artist, he tends to lean toward social commentary, politics, and stereotypes.

Telectroscope in UK

Imagine being able to see the other side of the world through the eye of a telectroscope? Well the folks from Artichoke has created this window of opportunity for the folks in London (Tower Bridge) and New York (Brooklyn Bridge).

If you around either cities, make sure you check it out.
This is available from May 22nd - June 15.

Check out the story about Paul St George and Alexander Stanhope St George who were the inventors of this visual amplifier.

The picture below is a blowtorch discovered when the transatlantic tunnel was reopened a few years ago.

The Rulers Back and Free

After doing time for 5+ years in the joint for attempted murder, Slick Rick aka Ricky Walters aka Rick the Ruler was granted a pardon from NY Governor David Paterson. He almost got deported back to his home country - United Kingdom, luckily his lawyers came through and was able to put this under the water. The attempt to murder his cousin and another man back in '91 almost ruined his career. Was it worth it? We may hear it in his next album, stay tuned.

Lesson learned today: "Anger would just make life not enjoyable, you know what I mean?" - Slick Rick

Hollywood meets Nike Hyper Dunks

Boney M

So I have been on youtube.com quite a bit because of my new job that consists of entertaining a group of political hacks that have nothing better to do but to talk about politics and bullshit. I can't explain to you right now but just wanted to share this video of this group back in early 1970's who were huge in the UK.

Watch this video called "Ma Baker" who was dedicated to Kate "Ma" Barker, who was a legendary American criminal from the "public enemy era", when the exploits of gangs of criminals in the Midwest gripped the American people and press. Her notoriety has since subsided, trailing behind Bonnie and Clyde and John Dillinger.

The man who is miming the whole time is Bobby Farrell who was Boney M a pop & disco group who was discovered by Frank Farian. His trademark is that he very commonly plugs himself as a backup/lead vocal in place with the male performers in the groups that he produces. So he found Boney M which consisted of Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell.

The lead vocals for songs on Boney M. albums were sung by Farian, Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell, who quickly became the group. As you will see in the video Bobby Farrell who originally was from Aruba as an exotic dancer was known for his pop locking moves to "front" for Frank Farian for his television performances.

Imagine if they tried to pull that off nowadays??

One Step Closer?

So if you don't really know who's behind Jask Clothing, I will say this: It can be summed up as a combination of the thought process behind two people. Both me and my partner, Jerry, hold full time jobs. So I guess it would be only right to say that we use this line as our hobby and creative outlet. We're very different in every aspect of our perspectives, but I'll save the details for another day.

For now, what you need to know is that I am a graphic designer by day (or should I say most of the day and sometimes well into the night) and Jerry is.....well, I don't really think I can describe him under one job title...I think I'll just add the letters A.D.D. after his name because he's all over the place.

In any case, in my day job, we deal with an impressive client list – one being the soon-to-be-constructed (maybe?) Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The whole process of a new "landmark" entering a community is definitely an interesting one, especially from a perspective that is behind-the-scenes. The Barclays Center recently launched a showroom to promote their suites in the New York Times building with the opening reception graced by the likes of Jay-Z and many other Nets execs. Here are some behind-the-scenes pics of the showroom the day before the reception:

Inside the showroom is a replica of an actual suite that features a screen which gives a panoramic view of what you might actually see. They had this projection screen switch depending on where the suite was located.

The entrance corridor was done in a timeline fashion that covered the entire history of BK. Signage was done by the world-renown design firm, Pentagram.

Smack-dab in the middle of the showroom is a cube-shaped projector that displayed videos and all that other good shtuff....

Loaded in New Zealand

I recently came across this advertisement in Sneaker Freaker which is a dope online magazine that puts out annually Sneaker Freaker book.

The advertisement I thought was pretty hilarious since the past few years Texas Hold'em Poker has drawn nationally and overseas. Thought this was a different approach of going "all in" on the hottest and flyest kicks you own. Imagine if there were folks that actually did that.

The folks over in New Zealand and Australia have been holding it down in the boutique world and have been growing dramatically and increasing presence to other countries. If you want to find out any information on sneakers this is a place to start. As you know fakes have entered the world for ebay and other shoe websites and they cover how to spot fakes.

Well there's this new website that recently launched called Loaded that recently launched and if you want to get the inside scoop, this is another portal to check out. They are 2 shops for the folks - Loaded Wellington and Loaded Auckland and if you can't go out to New Zealand, they will eventually have an online store. Here's a shot of the shop if you do happen to stop on through to visit the Kiwis.

Rogan on Target

Throughout the past year there has been endless amount of collaborations with artist and designers.

I kind of received the shock factor when I heard the collabo of Target & Barneys NY.

So Rogan Gregory (designer of Loomstate) has decided to put together another collection for Target Corp. The collaboration between the two was something I never expected and will probably bring a lot of eyes at when they make the debut there. I think its gonna cause shock value to the consumer but

The Rogan X Target collection is available starting today through May 18 Sunday at 6 p.m. at Barney's New York 7th floor and in Target stores and online nationwide starting May 18th Sunday. The collection includes over 60 styles with a range from $15.00 - $50.00. This will include t-shirts, dresses, blouses, and swimsuits.

Photosynth demo by Blaise Aguera y Arcas

Blaise Aguera y Arcas is an architect at Microsoft Live Labs who is a co-creator of Photosynth - software that assembles static photos from the web which has an amazing navigation & transforms the way we look at digital images.

A few questions come to mind though...
How will this impact the world of advertising. It will make it completely interactive and bring out 'push' marketing.

On the flip side though, but Photosynth could be perceived to pose a threat to privacy or the potential for voyeurism and espionage by anyone with access to it is deeply troubling to me but as you know Carl Jung summed it pretty nicely.. He spoke about the collective unconscious. This is an example of the collective conscious.

This looks really close to images in the movie "Deja Vu".

Blaise Aguera resembles the character Adam Goldberg who plays Dr. Alexander Denny.

Suge Knight knocked the eff out!

This image was posted on CNN

Rap impresario after being knocked out outside a LA night club, TMZ.com reports.

The entertainment news Web site said Knight got into an argument with another man, and then he & his companions allegedly knocked the other man to the ground. The man allegedly landed a blow on Knight's face that made him unconscious for about 3 minutes.

"I want my money," Knight was overheard saying to the man.

The altercation took place Saturday night outside Shag nightclub.

His companions put Knight into an sports utility vehicle.

A woman at the wheel tried to drive away but was removed from the vehicle after she hit a parked car and then reversed into another one. Another driver then took over.

KAWS at work

One of the true defining artist out from Jersey City, Brian Donnelly a look into how KAWS became who he was. He is best known for his characters and images which has now has hit vinyl toys, clothing, and accessories.
One of his shops, Original Fake, recently opened in the Aoyama district of Tokyo.

A true artist that keeps on reinventing himself, lets see what he has up next for us...

I do

These are images of a couple who planned a wedding during the earthquake in Sichuan, China when it hit 7.9 M on the Richter scale. The earthquake according to reports from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province went for 3 minutes. You will see images of the church tumbling down luckily no one was hurt and everyone was safe and sound.

I think this image really sums it up and should make it as one of the most powerful images of 2008. Just think about it, on one of your most important days of your life and a natural disaster occurs right before your eyes.

The last update is around under 70,000 civilians died.

The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless and some say it may go up to 11 million.

animal mistreatment?

Over the weekend for the first time I checked out the 134th Kentucky Derby on TV and it caught my eye since I caught the beginning of this event and how much hype they put before this race which the race itself only lasts about 2 minutes, but draws about 158,000 people to Louisville, Kentucky.

The pre-race consisted of a few hours of interviews with owners, trainers of the horses, vets, the riders and their background. I felt the other half, which are the women, tend to get drawn by the attendance of celebrities and women with their eccentric Derby hats which actually brought a lil pizazz seeing all types of hats from Victorian, designer, cloche, tea, and other ridiculous hats.

Now in my opinion after seeing the race I didn't find it at all chic or classy. I do understand that thoroughbreds are born and raised to race and compete but what happened to this filly horse "Eight Belles" I can not bear to watch the chilling scene.

Eight Belles had to be euthanized on the track immediately after the race and they kept on showing it over and over again and I am not trying to pick on racing since this happens in other sports such racing and even the sport of boxing or ultimate fighting. But for some reason after watching a young filly die less than 5 minutes after the race of her life, it can be disturbing. She must have been running on those broken legs which eventually just gave out and they had to do it to take away the pain immediately.

Exercising horses is good for the horses and this is what the folks in horse racing defend on since there's a breeding and training process and only a few horses are considered top potential. There is nothing offensive about the idea of horse raising but I can't imagine the many practices that go on behind the scenes can be quite disturbing and they would never show that in the lime light.

Animal Mistreatment? You be the judge.
