All about the FAT CAP chairs

Inspired by the small, seemingly inconsequential things in life, designer Sander van Heukelom looked to something as small and trivial as spray can caps as the inspiration behind a line of chairs. Designed for his solo exhibition in Amsterdam titled The Artistry of the Capâ€, the two-piece collection includes the “New York Fat Cap Chair†and the “Hooded Fat Cap Chairâ€.
About the artist:
Sander van Heukelom (1972) already began experimenting with typographic design and graffiti as a teenager.
Although his basic style has not changed much since then, his current work makes use of many different materials, such as styrofoam, plexiglas, synthetic resin and wood.
Sander, who is a graphic designer by profession, draws his inspiration from his extensive travels. After five years spent travelling around the world and teaching kite surfing on several continents, his creativity has taken wing. Sander is now known especially for his three-dimensional typographic sculpture and paintings with spray can and resin.
He also makes other various art objects, of which a few are shown in this portfolio.

Introducing the iphone killer
At a press event in London, manufacturer HTC unveiled its new Android-powered Hero handset. While the previous two Android devices, the G1 and the Magic, were a little ugly and underpowered, the Hero manages to combine sleek good looks with serious power.
Boasting a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, AGPS, digital compass, gravity-sensor, 3.5mm stereo headset jack and expandable MicroSD memory, the hardware is way ahead of previous Android handsets. It’s Teflon-coated to stay clean too.

At the movies this Wednesday
Massive Gundam Robot

Right now over in Japan a life-sized replica of a Gundam RX78 Mobile Suit was recently built on the artificial island of Odaiba in Tokyo Bay.

Now the Gundam is so large that you can see it from inside Odaiba station. It’s also very visible now on the way over on the Yurikamome line.
It's up until 31 August 2009, so go see it while you can.
Here are the directions:
1.) Take the Yamanote line (Shinagawa, Tokyo, Ueno, Shibuya, and Shinjuku JR stations all are on the Yamanote line) to Shimbashi station.
2.) At JR Shimbashi station, follow signs to the Yurikamome Line. It is in a seperate building.
3.) Purchase a ticket for 310 yen for Daiba station.
4.) When inside Daiba station. Take a left and look out the window. You will see it. Just get ground level and head that direction. I perfer to take the North Exit and the right stair case down. But you can also take the stairs near the statue of liberty and make a left.
5.) The Gundam is in North Shiokaze Park.

Human Camera Man
This is pretty insane, check this video out.
Stephen Wiltshire has been called the "Human Camera." In this short excerpt from the film Beautiful Minds: A Voyage into the Brain, Wiltshire takes a helicopter journey over Rome and then draws a panoramic view of what he saw, entirely from memory.

Diggin the new ATO -Baseball High Trainers
Still on the Grind 38 years strong - Tony Mignone

Looks like Park Slope’s only record store will keep on spinning the hits - at least for another three years. The legendary Fifth Avenue Record and Tape Center has found a new home just three doors down from its current spot at 439 Fifth Ave. Owner Tony Mignone will be evicted from that location at the end of the month, the Daily News has learned. “I’ll give it another shot,” said Mignone, 72, who’s been running the little neighborhood shop, simply known locally as “the record store,” for 38 years.

When you walk in, you really feel like it takes you back in the day when there was no internet. He keeps it old school, I actually stoppe by Tony's spot a year ago when my friend Dijitaal was living out there. I was able to speak to him and scoop a lot of classic tapes from him mostly Jazz from John Coltrane to Thelonius Monk and even found Reachin by Digable Planets and Public Enemy's Fear of the Black Planet.

Danger Mouse's new visual project

NYTimes piece on the new Dangermouse project - a collaboration with many folks, notably including David Lynch, whose photographs are being released in a book included with a blank CD-R of the audio.
yeah, a blank CD-R.
While the source of the blank CD-R is apparently a contract dispute with a previous label, the more pho-ic element is that he's simply included a blank CD-R and (implicitly) said "go find a leaked version via P2P" rather than release an album with a label he's got a dispute with. Essentially he's just selling the packaging.

One and Done....
Last night marked the first night of the NRF playoffs and our dance with the Air Force 1 squad was probably one that'll go down as one of the best games in NRF history. Everything that characterizes a playoff game was there last night - the intensity, the raucous crowd, the ref's bad calls (so bad that the refs quickly left the building after this one was done...and I mean QUICKLY). Unfortunately, we were on the losing end of this one. With only about 10 seconds left in regulation and a 4pt lead, we can only blame ourselves for this one. AF1 ended up winning it on a layup with 0.3 seconds left in overtime.
It was a pleasure playing with you guys this season, Team Terminator.
Until next season....

The High Line Finally Opens
After years of lawsuits, government bullsh*t and miles of red tape, the High Line finally opened up! Taking an old abandoned above-ground subway track, NYC went through alot to turn this into an outdoor park for a city that needs as much plantation as it can get.

What was the highlight of last night
I'm not sure if it was Steve Colbert who got an order from President Obama to get his hair shaved or Zack Morris played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar on the Jimmy Fallon show.
I hope they get the whole cast, so far I've seen the Principal, Mario, Jesse, and the show has been trying to get a reunion of all the members from "Saved by the Bell." I have an inkling it will be Screech next, there's only a few left, check Zack Morris jam with the Roots.
You guys can decide.

Rabbits gone wild in Canada
The campus of the University of Victoria, in British Columbia, has an expanding colony of rabbits. Decades ago they were mostly feral and gray, but now -- after years of pet owners dropping unwanted bunnies -- the campus rabbits have a different look.

preparing for the changing of a new guard
So it has been quite busy for me in City Hall just handling the past few elections in town and I must say it has been an enormous experience working for the Mayor and how much you learn when you work with such a political and also powerful figure for a small city. You have a new breed of press which includes the National & local media all the way to down to the local bloggers in town that now have also are coming up with the help of twitter and other social media tools.

(CSPAN bus)
From the ballot drawing to now a run-off election because everyone wants this thriving city that once was a neighborhood of mostly italians, dutch, and irish.

(ballot drawing for run-off election)
It will be quite interesting who will be the next leader of our city which we will find out next week and the candidates are hard at work as we speak rain or shine. I have been seeing flyers and tweets daily and folks wearing the color green and the color blue shirts flocking all throughout town like it's a celebration month for Earth day.
I mean earlier this week down in Edison, N.J. a 70 year old lady named Antonia Ricigliano ousted the former Mayor of Edison- Jun Choi, you can read it here: http://bit.ly/w9FT2
From what I heard she had the whole township's Democratic Committee backing her and Mayor Jun Choi had some tough decisions to make and had some issues with the Police Union. I respect Jun Choi and he is an inspiring person I look up to because I contacted him through Facebook, figured I would get some PR guy working behind him but it was him
On top we have Governor John Corzine who earlier this week had a special visit from Joe Biden endorsing him and supporting Corzine for the election for this coming November.
As you can see in the political world is quite busy in New Jersey, will keep you posted on how it turns out next week.
The Mayor asked me to take a few photos for his future memoirs....it's been great but we must move forward and establish a new guard for this city.

So don't forget to vote this Tuesday, this is a reminder to all poll workers to stay cool. Voting is for everyone and each one does count

NRF Playoffs - Road to MSG

My first year in this league, we had the pleasure of playing the championships at MSG...We missed it last year after getting ousted in the 1st round of the playoffs ...
This year?....
This year is different...
New squad...New mission....And new kicks....
That's right. I'm so hyped about this year that I went out and copped new kicks (K. Durant's McDonalds All-American Blue Chip Supreme) just for the playoffs. I'm so ready....LETS GET IT!!!....
